ITC's plantations department offers a wide range of Marketing and Extension (M&E) services required by farmers to ensure that their clone selection, cropping practices, use of pesticides and fertilizers, intercropping practices and harvesting practices are optimized.

From the time farmers approach ITC, the Plantations cell helps them to first identify their soil type. Based on this report, ITC recommends site-specific clones which will thrive best in that particular soil type,and the number of saplings that should be planted in the given land area. Farmers then have to reserve the number of saplings with ITC, and collect them in the planting season. ITC also offers advice on the appropriate distance to be maintained between saplings, types of intercrops in each season and fertilizers and pesticides to be used during the growth of the plants.
Each region has a dedicated Marketing and Extension officer, who looks after all the concerns of the farmers in his area.

ITC offers a buy-back guarantee for the crops planted. The prices at the time of buy-back are the prevailing market prices as determined by the Agricultural Market Committees. However, the guarantee does not mean that farmers are compelled to sell to ITC. Farmers are free to sell their crop to other buyers as well. This model helps ITC to generate consistent, high quality material, while at the same time provides employment to farmers and helps in greening acres of wastelands, which are otherwise uncultivable.
